Blinded by the glamour naive to our rights
Seldom have we as African Americans taken advantage of our ancestor’s murderous fight.
Pants swing low Nigga(er) flown wild
A derogatory term that would cause any colored person to lose the most luminous smile.
High School drop outs government dependents
Enslaved to the government pity with no ambition to break free of the life sentence.
During the 50’s they stood, fought, chanted loud and strong
Only for us to not take advantage, strive and give nothing but our all.
It only seems that the check for freedom that Martin so proudly spoke about
Has bounced us back to enslavement in the ghettos and declined the Black community.
But we ourselves are mainly the blame.
We have lost sight of a time period when African Americans were hung from trees
To sway in the summer breeze like the leaves on willow branches.
Over flowing the cup of bitterness and hatred with an immerse skin pigment complex
Better known as team light skin vs. team dark skin!
King longed for a day that not only his children but we as a community would not be judged for
The color of our skin but the content of our character but I digress.
They fought for our right to vote
We fight note to sing in elections on a very harmonious note.
Arrested for sitting anywhere, but the back of the bus
Yet we scramble to the back to produce a rambunctious degrading fuss
Black Facing our community with gangster rap music that clutter
Our youths minds to roam astray from something that can never be taken away
The gift of an illustrious EDUCATION.
Children grow to admire drug lords, unfit role models, and the devious currency
Idolizing the almighty greenback paper made shackle the leads to their unruly demise.
House Negros to a buck
Dance little nigga, tap little nigga, sell little nigga kill little nigga, entertain.
Not exhausting every opportunity and privilege to become, uplift and push towards
The stream of fortune, prosperity, and righteous living.
Salute to every Black man and woman whom takes advantage of higher education
Salute to every program that drives our youth to shoot beyond the stars so
If they shall fall they will land among the plush clouds.
Salute to every Black Greek organization who displays a productive life of meaning to our youth
Through the shopping window of life.
Salute to every HBCU that walked the main line to educate the past, the present, and the future
Of many first time students.
Salute to every black man and woman who broke through racial barriers and
Forever changed every PWI
Salute to every counselor, teacher, activist, motivational speaker, mother, father, and child
Who refuse to give up hope that one day we will wake up.
We will smell the morning brew
We will be civil
We will stand by our ancestors take pride in their struggles and take full advantage of our RIGHTS.
