That Is Not Me

The phrase,"But you're ..." makes no sense 

Just because I am, doesn't mean it applies to me. 

Yes, I am black, with natrual hair, but that doesn't mean I like rap music.
That is not me.

Yes he is Chinese, in an advance math class, but that does not mean he is going to be a doctor.

Because that is not him. He wants to teach instead.

Yes she wears a hijab, but she is not oppressed.

In fact, why don't you ask her why she wears it.

Yes he dresses in dark colors has scars, but do you know where they're from...no?

From his cat, because it was scared by something. 

You assume so much, that the lie become the truth.

A young black man is dangerous because he's dressed "gangster".

You assume that people with certain traits or in certain groups are the same

You stereotype, yet you don't know the truth.

So challenge yourself to find that truth, 

So that one day we no longer assume.
