Now I Know

Dearest friend

I feel the fire fall from heaven

as the ash thickens our lungs

can't help but ask if all our tongues could quench the flame

Sweetest friend

I've seen the way you look at him

and my hymnal couldn't save me

from the riddles of my envy-ridden shame

Greatest friend

maybe you remember when

we took off on our adventure

and our thoughts never made mention of our fears

Bestest friend

I miss our dances in the open

we weren't ashamed of our own voices

we weren't afraid to let our joy drown out our tears

How I

How I loved you

Now I

Now I know
