Oh Say Can YOU See?

America, America, bound by brotherhood from sea to sea.

Holding hands and singing joyous songs all over the country.

But what do we really stand for, fight for, are willing to die for?

Is it the freedom granted to us within a script written by our deceased founding fathers?

Or maybe the feeling of security a nation is supposed to grant our sons and daughters.

But what is freedom if there are people afraid to be stopped by a cop who is supposed to make us feel safe,

if we see the blood on the screens of our TVs being shed by our own brothers and sisters, imagine being in their place.

Cops see the color of my skin and start to shake as if it screams "Danger," why must you discriminate?

See the root of it all is fear, for it creates a division between us strengthened by hate.

I don't want to live my life in fear knowing that the ones who are supposed to protect us, kill us

There are still people out there though that don't understand all the fuss.

America has been trying to sweep things under the rug, so people are being blinded from the truth,

Only problem is there is no way to blind someone from the piercing screams of our youth.

It is one thing to be oblivious to situations around you,

but another to hear the agonizing cries and still act as if the skies are still clear and blue.

Do you see the people hurting on the streets of our country?

Do you see the people being gunned down in innocence, falling at the officer's feet?

Do you see the terrorism that is destroying the hearts, minds, and bodies of our community?

Do you see the lack of love leading lives away from unity?

Do you see America, do you see?
