One year

A New Year, New Faces

New Memories, New Places

So much I discovered

Faces were uncovered

It started off right,

New year, new me

But it quickly all ended

When finding of our presidential nominee

No way I laughed it off

This has to be a joke

But to my utter disgrace

“It’s real” my sister softly spoke

Soon after,

All spoke with hesitation

News, media, tv stations all claimed

He will never control our nation

The time is almost here,

My teacher seems upset

“It’s very close,” he says

But he won’t win, I bet

Election night comes,

I stay up all night

Still reassuring myself

This won’t be a tough fight

Tears fill my soul

As I see it all come down

A nation of diversity

Was soon nowhere to be found

Is this even real?

So many boundaries

So many borders

Set by a person

Who will soon give orders

How can this be real?

Who cares about the popular vote?

If, bullies are allowed to bully

And those with power to promote

Hatred, violence, inequality

I can’t believe it’s real

Walls are to be built

But bridges are the key

To continue to grow

As the land of the free

A country united

Yet people divided

Racism and discrimination

This is our new nation
