Only If

If only I could jump past all these thoughts, circling my mind.

Like the rainbow trout swimming

against the Yellowstone.

But all I can do is throw that bronze promise ring,

into the watery depths.

Only if I could just take the stand,

And go against the current.

But I am stuck with a relit cigarette,

Still smoldering between my newly naked fingers.

If only I could be a smooth as a river pebble,

but I am not refined.

I am a corrupt granite boulder

My exterior is crushing me,

Into your mold.

Only if I could deviate from the path

of Salmon.

Still, I follow nature’s path,

Down to the river's edge, I roam.

I draw my strength from the River and take the icy plunge.
