No one had thought it could be true
Seeing all these people on TV showcasing that there wasn’t anything they couldn’t do.
They fought and took on the next persons wrath everyday
More determined than scared that they might be dead from today.
They withstand the water hose and the vicious dogs
The anger evident on the white mans face as the crowd flocks.
From the Freedom Riders to the “I Have A Dream” speech
Everyone was going to hear his or her voice even to Heavens infinite reach.
Fear was everywhere, around the corner, watching like a shadow
People who thought the impossible looked at it as a fiasco.
But that didn’t stop them instead it drove them
To fight for their freedom and still maintain their faith in the Holy Spirit and Him.
President Kennedy understood
That African Americans were fighting with everything they could.
They struggled and died fighting for you
So to all those who made such a sacrifice for a cause, I take my hat off in gratitude.
You see and compare the generation now and the generation then
My parents were witnesses to this movement probably when they were ten.
Appreciation for this movement is an understatement
Respect is demanded as you walk on America’s historical pavement.
From today on, the world knows about this movement
A movement that caused such controversy it called for improvement.
And it did. It changed the course of the views of others
Trying to get everyone to look at each other as sisters and brothers.
Once again as stated before no one should forget about each persons fights
In order to obtain our Civil Rights.
Everyday there is something within historical feat to teach
And now it proves to any and everyone that nothing is out of reach.
