You called me a phoenix,
in beauty I was on fire,
but now I smolder in rage,
and you singe in desire.

You called me a candle,
I lit up your heart,
but wax ran down and dimmed
flames to run apart.

You called me a torch,
I saved you from the dark,
but I run rampant and wild
and unwillingly leave my mark.

You call me a phoenix,
but the games have now turned,
if you dare play with fire,
be prepared to get burned.

This is great. I love the continuous theme of fire and heat--it doesn't sound contrived in the slightest, and you really made it work. Nice job, and I hope you submit more poems for us to read!
