Politics and Unsharpened Pencils

Thu, 12/28/2017 - 21:35 -- Karoon5

The dark gray graphite snapped

Against my freshly torn notebook paper

Donald J. Trump is now the 45th president of the United States

Instinct kicks in and I

Panic

Worry

Wonder

Why do I feel so unsure about the future?

Then again why shouldn't I?

We have progressed this far as a country

And now...

A human sized cheeto has been elected to erase our accomplishments

Now we're back on square one

They say

Let's see what he'll do

And so I wait...

Only to see

families and Communities being torn apart

                      Humiliation of women

        disintegrAting international relations

       rejection Of global warming

                   diScrimination and radicalism

So tell me

How much longer should I wait?

No

How much longer should WE wait

Until our country is once again

A respected member of the global community?

This poem is about:
Me
