Puddles in the City

This city is a wonder every night.
But my favorite nights, I confess
Are the evenings  full of puddles,
Rain, and city fluoresce.

Raindrops emulate the city lights
But in a more exquisite way.
Emeralds, sapphires, and rubies-
like jewels in a dripping display.

Rain crashes on sidewalks.
It scatters how it will-
Coalesces with its friends-
Dance in a puddle they all fill.

Puddles like supernovas-
Of color, light, and life-
With sparkles only parallel
To the glitter of stars at night.

Unlike heavenly luminaries,
These go unseen.
Yet these too are miracles,
A dazzling canvas scene.

You stand in speechless awe
Before the sight of a raging sea,
Confronted by the mountains,
Or nature's fiercest majesties.

But does your breath steal away
When the autumn leaves fall?
When your baby sister laughs?
Or when the lady bug crawls?

Do you notice when the dew drop
Glints like a diamond
Do you stop to notice the sun
When it springs from the horizon?

Wake up your senses,
And your quiescent heart too.
Let the wonders rush in
And the Creator speak to you.

A happy tear streakes down my face,
The reason, is hard to ascertain.
But since it is only water on my face,
I will blame it on the rain.
