Radiant star

She is told she is wrong
So she spends her life thinking she is wrong
But no one has that power to say she is wrong
So she rights it down in a song
She sings it to herself when she feels trapped
When she has no where to turn she looks to that
She looks for hope she looks for a reason.
A reason to continue
being the person her parents never imagined her to be.
They imagined her free
The imagined her with white folks like me
Living in harmony
Living out MLK’s dream.
Living in a world where the color of skin was irrelevant
Where there was no such thing of embarrassment.
Being embarrassed of the person you are.
If they would just realize the world is a galaxy
And we are all stars.
And we are all born bright and beautiful
Until someone tells us we are dull
We start to believe what they think we are
No longer that beautiful radiant star
But we can all still hope that the
“dark clouds of prejudice will soon pass away”
And leads us to the dawn of another day.
Just like a happy ending to a long movie
When “love and brotherhood shine over our great nation
With all it’s scintillating beauty”
