The Reason I Write

Location

Some people think this is a game

SOme people think poetry is lame

But to me poetry is life

A way to express my thoughts, and get me through the strife

See my life is far from easy

it is filled with ups and downs

But because of poetry I have a reason to no longer frown

Growing up in Atlanta is hard for an African American like I

Most mornings I wake up and ask God Why?

Why did he put me here

Why am I stuck in the slums

Is there a reason I am placed here

a reason to why I am so numb?

Numb to the pain and violence

The prostitutes and riots

Because in here there is no Justice,

no equality for me and my mother

either you join a gang of get banged

even by your brother.

This is the reason I write,

I write not only for my self, but for them

to express not only my fear, but our fear of living on the brim.
