(poems go here) RECOGNIZE
The contributions of my people are no longer a mystery.
Our achievements and inventions acknowledged throughout history.
No one realizes how important it is to me,
To know just where I came from.
RECOGNIZE

These beautiful people who were once treated inhumane
Have accomplished these dreams that were wildly insane
& you can’t pay me to believe that inside of my veins
Their blood doesn’t pump through.
RECOGNIZE

Garret Morgan saved me from cars, when he created the traffic light
Madam C.J. Walker created a hot comb; I thank her for making my hair look just right
To get justice for all our people, Millions stood up to fight
& all that I know is wherever I go, thanks to them
My future is bright.
RECOGNIZE

You must know where you’re from to know where you’re going; the knowledge is all the same
Don’t let the actions of our brave ancestors ever go in vain.
Be thankful for what you have, and know how far you came
Because if it wasn’t for African Americans, your life would not be the same.
RECOGNIZE!
