Iconic of the civil rights,
Just a stool in a lunch counter,
Unknowing and unwavering, they played a part that needed playing,
Non-Violent, yet more powerful than retaliation.

Brave men and women fighting for their rights,
Rights which the whites found inherent,
Years struggling to merely sit and eat in peace,
Greensborough Four, a beacon.

Looking back, now with equity upon us,
Sitting at a counter seems unimportant,
History being euphemized,
Red vinyl seats sitting still, a lost symbol.
