Repurposed Hands

Her gaze drops in class

            Towards the meat they butcher

Her heart races and her breath is short

          Her past flares up again

She wonders how she even got this far

Just a mere year ago it was her meat that was butchered

Battling depression, self harm, and suicide

Now there’s a new start a new future

But the demons of the past don’t stay at bay

As she looks at the splitting flesh all she can see is her own

Locked in a bathroom with a razor tearing through the pain

Her mind goes foggy and her hands shake

She fights though, she can not stop now

            She proved her thoughts wrong

Wasn’t destined to an early grave at her own hand

She fought and battled against her most fearsome enemy

She made it

The future once seemed like an illusion

Takes shape under her repurposed hands
