Respect Connects

I respect your religion said no man ever

Our views--differing, but my respect will last forever

It is what connects us

When our differences separate us

My religion is often what sets me apart

But just because that is different

Does not mean that inside exists no heart

Those who have no heart

Are they who cannot accept and respect

They seem to have a defect

They say opposition deserves disdain

And sameness earn acceptance

And sadly that is exactly what our world is like today

Where differentiation recieves rejection

And uniformity recieves approval

But I dream of an unrealistic world

Where different opinions and views connect us

Where we find similarities in our differences

Where we don't have to be uniform to be accepted

I dream of this world where respect connects
