Ridiculous Demands

Dear School System:

At the droning deep, they rise and scurry

Some lolligag while others hurry

Down the halls, not distracted by breeze

Never attempting to do as they please

They aggressively avoid academic suicide

Seven hours before 3:00, seven hour after

Interpersed with moments of manufactured laughter

Laughter because they're all in the same boat

With parents and teachers and college at their throat

Molded by society, born to be Vanity's bride

To fourteen hours of work they're condemned

Can you not use the math you've taught them?

Fourteen to learn, which leaves just ten more

But science insists they need eight to snore,

Leaving two, only two. Now how does that work?

Life would be simple, if they were all robots

But universities want variety beyond what they're taught

Soccer for two hours, SAT class for five

Honing random skills they're told to archive

Twenty-nine hour days, enough to drive even you berserk.

What more from us could you possibly ask?

May I remind you, it is counterproductive to multitask...

Our expansion of time in the midst of an era most chaotic

Proves that we, the teenage species, are either idiotic

Or brilliant

Love,

      Duckie
