A light is seen just beyond reach,
There is a strive towards it that welcomes each push forward,
As the first breath is taken in,
A cry is released from aching lungs,
That of a newborn,
Equal in every way to all others,
A baby brought into an unpredictable world,
One full of hypocrisy,
Hidden behind a guise known as social media,
In our time,
Thre have been activists who fought for 'equality',
A term loosely used that exists only in theory,
If only the vision of our ancestors could ring true,

Martin Luther King Jr.,
A man who sought to
Eradicate,
Exterminate,
And Eliminate,
Racism and discrimination through civil disobedience,
For his fellow man,
A man whose dream has become a striking reality,
A man whose death has not gone in vain,
A man who would take pride in the freedom gained after years of suffering,
A man who succeeded in the conquest for equality,

Susan B. Anthony,
A woman who lived as a suffragist,
But whose suffering failed to go unrecognized,
Each president elected,
Should be grateful,
To those of people gifted in the art of bearing from thy fruit,
To those who were once bound to sewing,
To those once shackled to societies low standards,
To those who now have a voice,

Cesar Chavez,
An activist,
A man of unity,
A role-model,
He grew from meager/humble beginnings,
His life that of valiance,
Showing that a voice is more powerful than a weapon,
His birth gave way for new hope,
And better lives for the average American worker,

All of these great figures,
Had a lust for a genuine democracy,
Today the world is refined,
And is in great debt to these leaders,

But...
True equality can never be obtained,
For people always search for new ways,
To prove themselves distinct from others,
Perfect in their own way,
And above all else,
Why can we not have the same rights?,
We were all born with the right to life...
