Roses & Violets

Roses & Violets

By: Brianna Jackson

Roses are red

Violets are blue

I am African American

What would you do?

I am African American and I love myself,

But why do you judge? Me, someone innocent you just met?

Do you think I’m on the Northside?

Do you think I’m in a Gang?

Do you think I’m a Thief?

I am Black and that is that

If Obama can be president, then why can’t I?

Harriet Tubman made the $20, she’s the person who helped people in the underground railroad. A journey to freedom for my people.

Roses are red

Violets are blue

I am a success

Is this a test?

I make it in the workplace

I reached my mountain top

I work hard for my check

I drive miles and miles

And climb step by step

The stairs I climbed spread further apart, but when I get closer to the light my dreams have finally made their way.

Roses are red

Violets are blue

Guess I proved you wrong

Set aside your hatred for me too.

You cannot stop me I’m a Bullet Train, no obstacle can stop me, I’m not crazy or insane. I’m just a determined African American Women who defied your odds.

Roses are red,

Violets are blue,

I fell seven times but stood up 8.

What about you?
