From The Safety Of My Window

From the safety of my window

I look out and view the world.

A harsh, cruel world is what I see,

Looking back with scorn at me.

From the safety of my window

In the shadows I try to hide.

People say my skin’s inferior,

But I quietly bear it with pride.

From the safety of my window

I discover we are all the same.

We share a language and many traits,

There is no need for any hate.

From the safety of my window

I perceive the world in a new way.

A world where everyone is equal,

I pray it may be like that someday.
