She Loved

She often sat and wondered how they became so distant.
He is close enough to touch, but too far away to reach.
Every song and saying reminds her of what used to be.

Love, oh love, why do you continue to make a fool of me?
On and off, the tears fall down her cheeks.
Vexed by their ongoing issues, and perplexed by the insensitivities.
Eventually acceptance of the situation sheds light and brings comfort.
Day breaks and smiles return, and as time passes she grows stronger.
