Simple

Some say she's simple

They think she's easy to figure

But these people know very little

She walks through life with vigor

She's not an angel

But nor is she the devil

Her life has never been painful

Yet still she is careful

No one has ever beaten her down

Told her she's no good

She's from a respected part of town

She's never been to the hood

Considered pure, clean, and kind

Everyone stereotypes her

From her mind

To her boots with the faux fur

But she is not a stereotype

No, not pure

She has her own battles to fight

Trust me, I know if you're not sure

For you see, I am she

I am the girl who doesn't hide who she is inside

Who works tirelessly

Only to be judged on the outside

But I am a child of God

Which is of greatest worth

Though some think I'm odd

It is merely love that I set forth

For not all know or have the stupendous fortune

To understand that they are loved

By the one who made all creation

So it is my job

You must know

To work nonstop

And let God's love show

People see me and they believe I'm a pleasant person

But if they looked beyond the simple, beyond the veneer, beyond the tips of their noses

They would find one simple assertion

My life is not for me, no it never has been

I was born a slave, black, and filled with sin

But now I know how to show love and I shall accomplish this yet.

Because He died for me I shall take the time

To tell of his sacrifice, even if through rhyme

Jesus loves me this I know

For the Bible tells me so

Little ones to him belong

They are weak but He is strong.
