Sitcom of 8:43

Period 1 is a sitcom

Without the cheesy button that simulates laughter

Without the freeze frame in the most awkward situations

Just kidding

There’s totally a freeze frame

Setting: 7:40 AM

A brisk autumn morning, or, long night

depending whether or not if that english essay was due

I trudge up the stairs into the classroom

Past the rainbow quilts on the walls

Past the posters of sunken treasures and journeys to outer space

Past the collection of colored pencils and cat posters

And into my seat in

Calculus class

.

.

Freeze

.

Wait

.

What?

.

A calculus class with cat posters?

.

.

But, of course

.

7:50 the bell rings

30 seconds later

A tall boy in a hat bursts through the door and clamors his way through the rows into the seat next to me

‘What kind of parking lot always has its gates closed you won’t believe the turn I had to make to get back to PCH’

.

Freeze

.

This is M

An interesting character

With love for his car greater than any Shakespearean romance I’ve ever read

His name means God, creator of time and space

But, ironically,

His impressive collection of tardy slips tell me otherwise

.

‘Only 30 seconds late? I’m proud of you’

.

Freeze

.

I turn and face a girl whose desk looks like it was puked on by a hungover grape

She pulls her purple laptop out of her purple backpack

Clicks her purple pens

Takes out her purple folder

And pulls out her homework which

Surprisingly

Is not purple

This is Naan

She adds a splash of color to my life which, inexplicably, would be purple

.

‘Great. Everyone is here, ALMOST on time for a change’

.

Freeze

.

The sassy math teacher who holds a key to all the secrets of the world

What is the nth term test?

Only she and God know

In this sitcom she runs the storyline

However

Her tests play the antagonist

.

8:20 AM

.

‘Did you get number 29?’

‘Oh God, I didn’t read for euro’

‘Wait. We had reading?’

‘Omg you guys are juniors get your lives together’

.

8:43 AM Class ends

I don’t understand why class ends at 8:43

Why not 8:45?

Again,

Only my math teacher and God would know

Period 1 is a sitcom

Starring 33 characters

With awkward freeze frames and bursts of laughter

The plot rollercoasters like an oscillating function

From the terror of the upcoming chapter 10 test

To the the screeching of the students as they attempt to teach calculus through a Beyonce song

Why do I get up?

.

7:40 AM

Episode number infinity of Period 1.
