Small Room

 By: Alejandro Barranco

Years have passed

Not one step has been made outside of this room

This small room

...Where am I?

Why am I here?

Who’s keeping me in here?

What’s happening beyond the door?

Slowly, I walk towards the door

Gently, I place my head against the door

At first nothing is heard

Suddenly, my ears are ringing from a piercing scream

Frightened, I jump away from the door and land on the cold ground

I look around the room to see what is around me

A door, a door mat, but nothing else

I tried the door, but it was locked

Could it be that there is a key under the mat?

I bent down, picked up the mat, and there it was

Slowly, I reached for the key

As soon as I grabbed the key, I stood up quickly and put the key in the door knob

As I was about to unlock the door, I hear a faint voice

“Don’t. You don’t want to see what is on the other side”

Not knowing who or where the voice came from, I unlocked the door and slowly opened it

Once the door was fully open, all I could see was an eternal fire throughout the entire surrounding

All I heard was endless screaming

Am I in hell? Or is this just a dream?

Not wanting to find out, I slammed the door shut, locked it, and placed the silver key under the mat

What is there to do? Should I stay in this small room, or go out into the hell fire?

Shall I take this hell fire on, or stay in here and never change my future?
