To Society

Dear ears that are listening, and eyes that read me wrong.

No I am NOT the black girl "video vixen" that throws it back to the beat of every song.

I am my mom's sassy mouth, and the complete opposite of my daddy's ignorant ways.

I am not a chocolate fontains that you can dip your fruit in to please for all of your days.

I might be colored brown with a speckle of indifference here or there.

Oh I'm sorry, did I offend you in the way I walk and stare?

Or the way I wear my hair?

Or the way that I wear what I wear??

Here's what you can do.

You can take your nasty,

judgemental,

finger pointing,

eye rolling,

neck popping, stupid fucked up societal ways, and you can follow them too!

Cause my momma raised me. But society changed me..

And to all the people that appraised me, I am what God made me to be...

And I am happy with me.

This poem is about:
Me
My family

My country
Our world
