The sun sets over the horizon of hope
And I watch as it lies beautifully over our dreams
Each day is lived fighting for our rights
The rights of friends
The rights of family
The rights of ME!
The rights for a loving, peaceful, fulfilling
LIFE
I’ve always wondered, What is so difficult about recognizing Civil Rights?
To believe in the unseen
Searching for the said meaning of harmony
Others twisting the words of the once pure
Adding lies and deceit to what used to be innocent
Furthering their own agenda
Now we just wait for others to lead us
In the meantime
We change ourselves to what others see fit
Morphing into this unreal image of “assimilation”
So I just stay true to myself
My personality knows no bounds
Sarcasm and laughter shape my every day
Taking life as it comes and smiling at the fact that we DO have
An African-American President
Learning to live through the hypocrisy of my Country
Experiencing this history
The stepping stones of tomorrow
Dreaming of being a lawyer one day
Thurgood Marshall
So I can sue America for Fraud
For denying us the American Dream!
Growing up and filling up with wisdom and faith;
And passing it along the generations, old and young
Giving others the chance of a better life
Helping each other reach their DREAM to make our ancestors
Known and unknown, proud
Instead of kicking each other down into the depths of no return
Let’s continue the mission
I am forging ahead for you
Will you keep pushing for me?
Equality, Respect, Love, Peace, Coexistence is for everyone
So let’s walk hand in hand
And fight the battles that have yet to come
Because nothing can break this shield of confidence we have built for the journey.
