Soul Pursuit

To live, to die

To feel, to forget

To forfeit, to try

To continue, to quit

To know, to question

To love, to hate

Life demands decision

Our existence born of fate

For day turns to night as

Night turns to day as

Day turns to night as

Night turns to day

Life was never our choice

Had we known before birth

The triviality of life's voice

Rejected by all would be earth

Pain hides securely inside

Not because it itself is unique

But because our souls abide

By rules we know not how to speak

In endless cycle lies our strife

For we cannot learn from those

Who before us learned our failed life

Thus keeping constant our woes

Why live? Why die?

Are we even able to decide?

In our youth the world is a lie

Growing shows we cannot hide

Swirling, confused, questioning,

Are forever the voices inside

Contradicting, demanding, beckoning

Are forever the voices outside

So what? Life is how?

Life cannot be conquered

To it we all must bow

Our fate sealed and ensured

To us the voices say

As we lay surrounded by night

That turns to day

That turns to night

Yet, though all must seek

For to not is to seek as well

Inevitably we will remain weak

In absence of a purpose to tell

So empty and meaningless

Stands existence out of reach

Ourselves tangled in mess

The world with nothing to teach

Unless! But wait!

Life demands a decision

Deciding the meaning of our fate

Or perhaps not, but the plan of One

In the recesses of heart

Speak deeply our responsive souls

As we lie in that dark, forced apart

And life, death, and hope play their roles

Weaping, longing for more

The abyss that is life offers nothing

If this world is all that was before

And will be all the future can bring

Pain of the world is our infinte lot?

For us, who are born of it

But there is One who is not

The world is the words He has writ

If this humanity be, so bemused

And our souls so adrift

No force of this life can restore the abused

Only the One who offers perfect gift

Choosing to acknowledge as King

A faultless yet alleged force

Is to believe in something

That sees our agony at its source

Awake! Commit to vitality

We can recognize only life and hope

For what they are in reality

A presence, in our souls envelope

Darkness has won many nights

But Light reaches us in ways unknown

To satisfy the longing life incites

From the LORD this promise has been shown.
