A stony heart

Matthew 5:44-45 New English Translation (NET Bible)

44 But I say to you, love your enemy and pray for those who persecute you,

45 so that you may be like your Father in heaven, since he causes the sun to rise on the evil and the good,

and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

A stony heart

Son-shine in the morning can melt a heart of stone

Baking heat in the afternoon can’t do much more

Just heating up the mourning of the dead man’s bones

So the odor of this gloom will knock on every door

“Dead is dead”, a common phrase but who’s the judge of that

Who knows what life is about, unless it is Life, Him-self

Really in every appointed case judges are destined to fall flat

For to judge is a foggy deadly cloud that hangs above our head

Will a rainy day somehow soften a heart of stone?

Or will the tears taste bitter and so to be spit out?

Is this vessel clay determines to be prone

To the hunger for the better so to fulfill itself in doubt?
