The Struggle

Don’t tell me that you understand how I feel when we both know that’s a lie

It’s hard to talk to someone who has never experienced struggle

They think that they’re comforting you, but all they’re doing is telling you how privileged they are

I need someone who went through the struggle

Someone who knows what it’s like to have no light in the house for a night because the bill couldn’t get paid

Someone who is aware of the insufficient resources in our community and wants change as much as I do

Introduce me to someone who isn’t afraid to say, “I’ve never had this before”

The type of person who’s always willing to share because they know what it’s like to be empty-handed

I need someone who knows struggle as much as I do

Someone who knows that the struggle doesn’t dictate where you’re going in life

It only shows where you’ve been
