the struggle to overcome

the struggle
it began the time we were born
when we fought to grow and some of us to continue on with life as we knew it for a short period of time
but that wasn't the only one

years later it became the color of our skin
we were treated like animals
being beaten and forced into the cage called racism
forced to work for our master under harsh circumstances
but it was never enough and never stopped there

the racism escaladed into our education, political system and public setting
on a daily basis we were seperated from the whites, forced to take the back on the bus and never give our duty to justice

but the day came that the struggle ended and we overcame

we became individuals instead of being under someone else that wasn't god almighty himself
we became leaders in the justice system
judges, civil rights activists, even the president of the united states
in those moments there no longer was a struggle but a new beginnning
the labels came off
the name calling stopped
the mistreatment became equality
and among them fairness became something experienced on a daily basis

we overcame
we fought
we became something that seemed so impossible
a free race
to no longer be treated as mistakes
