Let there be light.
Let there be darkness,
To balance out the light,
Both equal, both important,
But separate.

Ferguson says good,
Plessy says bad.
Let the light have day,
And the dark have night;
It’s fair.

Years of oppression,
Of segregation, of wrong,
All in the name of right.
Light and dark are separate,
But equal.

Brown says no,
Education says yes.
Ferguson forgotten,
When the light and dark mix.
It’s sunrise.
