Two Fish

Wed, 03/27/2013 - 11:46 -- acutler

A red fish,
a blue fish,
a Seussical pair.

On a day
like today
that just isn't so fair.

Says Red to the Blue
"I could eat,
how 'bout you?

It's been quite a long time
since our lunch just past two."

Then out of the darkness
a glimmer, a wink
swam a wandering minnow
but gone in a blink.

"I swim faster"
says Red
"I've got science,"
says Blue

"My scales are aerodynamic
I swim through sea like a planet
through space."

And so off the two went
leaving bubbles behind
'till they caught up to the minnow
its tail caught in sea weed that just wouldn't unwind.

"Don't eat me"
it said
to the Red and the Blue
"I would be quite sad
to come away
dead."

"I'll eat him, I'm first"
the Red said with a nod,
"I wouldn't object to a bit of
applause."

"You're more red than me
and you know that's your reason
but denying the truth is
akin to treason."

The Red simply scoffed and said
"Look at him wriggle.
You're too blue to eat that,
if you tried I would giggle."

"Excuse me."
A whisper, a mere inch away.
"It's me you're discussing,
shouldn't I have a say?"

"You're red and you're blue,
think of two and add two,
it makes four that's a fact,
and there's no changing that,
just like red, just like blue.

So just make up your minds,
or I'll do it myself.
Time is wasting, I'll escape
I truly have stealth."

"He's right, we're the same,"
said Blue, waving fins.
"None of us has a claim,
neither one wins."

Red held out a fin with a fervor quite daring,
"I have an idea,
and it sure involves sharing."

So fish Red and fish Blue
bit the minnow
in two.
