Untitled Love Poem

Location

I am the girl your mother warned you about -

that when you're done with the easy lays

in beds that never get used to your shape -

You'll look up from your third drink

and see me standing there, patient,

smiling as I realize you're finally seeing me.

I am the girl your life has been leading towards

when "Will you?" turns into "I do"

down a carpeted aisle into forever.

I am the girl you're too scared to talk to

because you see that committment in me.

I am not your one time only:
I better be your only

as I will treat you better than myself.

I am the girl that you ignore

as you reach for your fourth drink.
