WE ARE NOT OK

God forbid
I get a B on a homework
Assignment,
Bringing my GPA down.
No way I'm
Ever missing a test or quiz,
No way I'll ever
Go into class with...
Jokes and a smile on
My face.
Focus, focus, focus
It's alright if I
Skip meals
And end up sleep
Deprived
At least I have my priorities
Straight.
I walk through the halls
And nod to more than
Half the kids I see
Because I know they're
Exactly like me—
School matters more
Than our lives
And God forbid
We don't reach our
Dreams
In those magical
Ivy League schools.
If we don't make it,
We've failed
And we'll end up on
The streets.
K-12, there's only
One plan to
Strive
But we never stop to
Realize we might
Die.
I swear,
It's the system,
It's broken.
We take pills
To sleep at night
WE ARE NOT OK.

This poem is right! Great job at bringing light to a system that needs to be fixed! As a student myself, I feel like this poem really applies to me.

Sorry it took me so long to respond! Thank you lots! It's honestly quite sad how many of us (students) go through what I described above.
