When I Was Young

When I was young,

I thought that my parents had all the money in the world

And I could just ask for anything

When I grew up,

I stopped asking for things

And decided that they had to work hard for everything they had

When I was young,

I thought that life was full of purity

and everyone lives in an untainted world

When I grew up,

I realized that everybody faces challenges

And the world isn’t all sunshine and rainbows

When I was young,

I thought I would never be like a teenager or an adult

And I couldn’t imagine my future

When I grew up,

I understood the life ahead of me

When I was young,

We would all talk to each other

And all classmates would be friends

When I got older,

Everybody became a bully

And when we saw each other on the streets, we would pretend we didn’t know each other

When I was young,

All the kids played outside

and couldn’t resist playing in the snow

When I got older,

We turned into teenagers

And all we did was sit on our phones

When I was young,

I spoke to my neighbor that was two years older than me

and we were pals

When I got older,

She walked straight to her garage

And would stare straight ahead even if I was outside in my yard

When I was young,

I didn’t think my life would be like this

and I wanted to be older

When I got older,

I realized that things were better when I was younger

and I wanted to be that again
