Why

Tue, 11/07/2017 - 08:56 -- srb182

You smiled at me when you saw me in the halls.

You brought me my favorite food on my birthday-

He butted his way in-

You chuckled at my really bad jokes.

You talked with me about nothing all night-

He told me to stay away from you-

I said you didn’t have to do that and I asked you why,

And because I love you (you’re such a great friend) was always your reply.

But he barked “Because I love you”.

You held my hand when I didn’t ask you to.

You listened to me when I ranted for hours-

He knew how to push my buttons-

You gave me advice and support and nothing I deserved.

You bought me lillies, my favorite flowers-

He knew my biggest fears-

I said I’m not used to these gestures and I asked you why,

And because I love you (he doesn’t deserve you) was always your reply.

But he insisted “Because I love you”.

You said nothing when I snapped at you.

You blended into the background when I asked you to-

He said I was better off-

You avoided me to protect me, but I found myself missing you.

You kept your distance, even though it caused you pain-

He said I was his sweetheart, his love, his baby, his I didn’t care anymore-

I said I didn’t want to be and I asked myself why,

And because I love you (you, who showed me true love) was my reply.

But he pleaded “Because I love you” when I finally said goodbye.
