Why Calculus

Dear Isaac Newton,

Why did you invent Calculus?

Did you hate all of us?

Was finding the derivative fun to you?

Did you want to bore us too?

Was it because you wanted to outdo Leibniz?

Or did you want to be part of the big wigs?

Maybe, you wanted to precisely track the curve of a graph

Or maybe you wanted to predict the maximum profit of your calf.

Perhaps you wanted to help Physics with its concepts

Or possibly to help Chemistry with its forceps.

For whatever cause you came up with it, I reason

It was to get math out of the era of Elizabethan.

Sincerely,

Justin
