We have come a long way
Yes we have. We have moved from slavery, to freedom
From voting requirements to suffrage for everyone.
It was a long battle to make it this far, but those who fought
Kept their heads up high for the brighter tomorrow.

And now we stand as one country, home of the diverse
Where one can be Asian and eat a hamburger, where one
Could be Mexican and love rap, where one can be Black and
Love tacos.
We are a chocolate box we contain a little bit of everything.

Despite this I still wonder WHY? Why am I, a Hispanic girl
Still looked at as an underachiever? Why do my black peers get looked
At as the trouble makers. What makes us this way? Where do
These crazy myths about us come from?

We have come a long way
Yes we have! But why not go a little bit more further?
I mean we're almost there,
So why not?
