The Word of God

Darkness...that is what I see.

Silence...that is what I hear.

Emptiness...that is what I feel.

All around me, there is nothing: no light, no sound, no objects. I am alone, with nothing, except...

I hold my book to my chest.

I open it, run my fingers over the words.

I am not alone, I have this one thing.

This one thing to comfort me, to give me hope, to get me through.

I am afraid: “So do not fear, for I am with you” -Isaiah 41:10

I am alone: “'surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age'” -Matthew 28:20

There is no light: “'I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life'” -John 8:12

There is no sound: “there will be heard once more the sounds of joy and gladness” -Jeremiah 33:10-11

I have nothing: “'Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth...But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven'” -Matthew 6:19-20

I have kept this one thing, because with it I have all the others.
