Can you hear me now?
We want our president
We want to be heard
we want to be noticed!
No longer, pushed aside and kept in the dark.
Can you hear me now?
We want our president
We want to be heard
We want to be noticed!
We want, to be represented by someone who understands.
Can you hear me now?
Don’t take away our signs!
It’s our most ground breaking way to speak!
Don’t tell deaf people we can’t teach!
Who else could possibly be better?
Can you hear me now?
We want a deaf president, now!
We want our opinions to matter
We don’t want to be shuffled around like sheep!
Can you hear me now?
We are people who feel!
We are someone’s sister or cousin
A mother, a father
A brother, an uncle
Can you hear me now!
We’re tired of waiting
Here we come.
Taking over the house,
The fields, the school!
Can you hear me now!
You want your school back
Well here’s a newsflash it’s ours!
It’s always been ours, for the deaf and hard of hearing.
Can you hear me now!
This university was founded for us
To teach us,
To inspire us,
A place where we have the
Chance
To excel,
To prove we’re not incompetent!
A home, to finally, feel normal at.
Can you hear us now!
To get back this school
We have a few demands
Four to be exact,
D-E-A-F!
Can you hear us now!
Deaf President Now!
(Non-negotiable)
End Ms. Spilman’s reign
(Effective immediately)
A fifty-one percent majority on the Board of Trustees
(permanently)
Forget about any reprisal against students, faculty, and staff involved in the protest
Did this work,
Have we been heard?
