You first loved me Lord,
When I was lost and choking in sin, scoffing at the very idea of a savior,
You first loved me,
When I cursed You and shut my eyes to the light,
You first loved me,
When I hardened my heart and called Your children fools oh Lord,
You first loved me.
When all that came out of my mouth were sharp words and false intellect,
You first loved me,
When I was surrounded by trouble,
But pride kept me from You,
You first loved me,
When You deigned to soften my heart and open my mind,
You did so, because You first loved me,
When sharp words and pride melted and I was defenseless,
You were my shield and rampart, because You first loved me,
When Your word rang true deep in my heart and I glanced up at You,
Lord, You didn’t turn away because You first loved me,
When I accepted You and learned to love You oh Lord,
You flooded me with peace and joy because You first loved me,
I love You today Lord, because You first loved me.
