Mark Twain

  • You can visit his house in Hartford, Connecticut which is rumored to be haunted and was even featured on the TV show “Ghost Hunters.”

 

  • He was born Samuel Langhorne Clemens and Mark Twain was one of his pen names. Some of his wackier pen names included Thomas Jefferson Snodgrass, W. Epaminondas Adrastus Blab, Sergeant Fathom, and Rambler.  

 

  • His novel The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn has come to be known as the “great American novel.”

 

  • Twain was born two weeks after Halley’s Comet appeared, and felt a special connection to the event. In 1909 he told people “I came in with Halley’s Comet in 1835. It is coming again next year, and I expect to go out with it. It will be the greatest disappointment of my life if I don't go out with Halley's Comet." He passed away the following year, one day after Halley’s Comet came again.
