Aspire

Perhaps I greet the day to prove my worth

To so many who have belittled me

I rise to show them that I am the Sun

Powerful, bright, essential

I rise to show them that I can overcome the dark

And the doubts of night have no effect on the pink morning sky

Maybe I greet the day to accept all of its blessings

I rise to the radiant warmth of a smile or hug

I rise to a brilliant display that proves joyfulness is within reach

A display that sheds light on all things wonderful

I greet the day knowing that at any time something awe-inspiring could appear

A richly vibrant Kentucky sunrise, handpainted by Monet

or fragrant summer magnolias delivered from Eden

or a lightning strike over the Carolina coast

could stir and shake and calm my soul all at once

I rise as the sun does

To change the world

And brighten the day of those around me

This poem is about:
Me
