生 (Sheng)

Warmth in the womb

Forever entombed

In an endless peaceful slumber

Always a cocoon

Safe in this room

Never a note of hunger

Then a sudden jolt

Of the nest’s revolt

And suddenly it all falls away

The sudden drive

Of being eaten alive

And then I am no longer safe

Escape from this tomb

And claw at the stone

Ere I vanish away

Forever a climb

To stay alive

And perhaps to see another day
