too many things to think about and its only may 

political division

ethnic division

rights division

wrong division

hate division

love division 

and rising above all of this we’re said to be the generation of change

we’re supposed to be the one’s who trail blaze

who choose the road not taken 

who have the capacity to enact the greatest change this universe has seen not only from a political stand point but a love standpoint from a right standpoint from a rules and regulations standpoint 

were supposed to be the ones who are different

 so often I’ve been told by adults how awesome they think it is 

how were responding
what were doing

but what are we really doing?

 

what are we really doing 

we’re defying authority 

dying from drug overdose 

we’re spending our weekends binging on Netflix and wasting our parents money 

were making icons out of people who would have no real practical success 

walking out 

 

walking out of our free public education 

 

were disrespecting our elders 

trying to be superior so ignorantly forgetting that they’re the reason were here 

 

were doing drugs so recklessly forgetting that we have goals to achieve and places to be 

never mind the fact its illegal

 

for heavens sake we making spam accounts to broadcast our lives to the world.

 

were walking out

where?

why

what are we really doing

is it just for show 

is it just for a moment

cause i can tell you one thing, walking out of a classroom is not going to change our lawmakers minds, walking out is not going to stop school shootings, walking out is not going to prevent ww3, walking out is not going to end fascist viewpoints, walking out is just sound and fury

 

its white noise

its a show 

 

if we do all we do with no intent to take action for change things won’t change

isn’t that a bright idea 

 

so instead of walking out walk UP to the kid that sits alone 

walk UP to the person you’ve never talked to 

walk UP to congress and tell them a plan of action

walk UP

just please WALK UP

 

were so all consumed in a world that revolves around us 

were so consumed with ourselves

you may say no no  thats not me 

i care about others

i care about change

i care about difference

 

but its black and white 

 

its in black and white 

 

stop making spam accounts and start making change

 

put down your phone long enough to realize there is a whole universe that exists right above your fingertips 

there’s more to this than the number of likes, retweets, snapchats or thumbs up you can get

 

stop sitting around and do something anything 

 

whether you’re pro life

pro love

pro right

pro immigration 

 

 

just do something

 

something tangible

something real

something you know isn’t a dream

 

to me thats what 2018 is 

thats what a generation of change is

thats what we are

thats what you are
