21st Century

‘Retail therapy’ is possibly the lowest echelon people slump to,

Consumerism will only make the twangs of pain,

More severe.

Carefully wrapped gifts of wisdom from the past have been damaged or thrown away,

Parasitical surveillance has subtly inflated,

Your street corner was never meant to match a dystopian description in Orwellian literature.

Your list of actions are consistently recorded,

Your very livelihood is now represented by data,

Data which you are not the leader of.

So, Western culture attempts to escape the nightmare that is now,

It finds comfort and consolation in the past,

I refuse be nurtured by nostalgia.
