We Might've Been

We might've been the curving night

- dim, blinding and empty

We might've been your mother's knife

- sharp, hard but flimsy

We might've been the tiled floors

- cracked and hollow

We might've been your dog's howls

- loud with sorrow

We might've been the pages

of that book you'd always read

          - decoying, decoying

'Let Him Not Influence The Stars Nor the Eyes That Hold It,'
