6 A.M.

6 a.m. gets me out of bed.

The hum of a new day rushing through my veins,

exciting me to my core,

that gets me out of bed.

7:30 a.m. My mother's soft laughter

and my father's tender hugs,

these get me out of bed.

8:00 a.m. A fresh college campus,

The promise of new adventures,

The smell of textbooks layered in years of touch,

This gets me out of bed.

9:00 a.m. The warmth of the sunshine flooding the bedroom floor,

my love greeting me at the breakfast table,

this gets me out of bed.

5:00 a.m. The crying of my newborn baby girl at the sight of dawn,

her bubbling sounds coming up from my chest

where she lay,

this gets me out of bed.

10:00 a.m. The smell of new roses in the garden outside of my window,

my husband snoring lazily behind me,

This gets me out of our bed.

7:00 a.m. Fresh coffee and reminiscence

of my wonderfully fulfilled life,

this gets me out of bed.
