african american, caucasian, or both

i am my father’s child.

i am my mother’s child.

i am black,

and i am white.

not less black,

and more white.

not less white,

and more black.

i am filled with black

and white.

i am both.

— don't tell me what i am,

you don't have the ability

to take my culture away.

Reminds me of the theme in Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston. You should read it if you haven't had the chance. Good poem. I like the less is more approach.
