All That I Am

Location

I am utterly raw, entirely my own element

In this world constantly trying to change me

Composed of my thoughts and my ideas

I consist of the instrumentals I lend an ear to

During the countless hours I spend writing

Letting my thoughts become lyrics to the wordless songs

I am the makeup that I never wear

And the hair that doesn’t get brushed some days

Made of the books I read and the songs that I sing

I am a shy spirit that betrays a friendly soul

But a true friend to the few who make an effort

Coaxing me out of my shell where I love to hide

I am a person who regrets all the words I am too afraid to say

Who sometimes feels more alone in a group of people

Than sitting at home with only my dog to keep me company

I am the simplicities that bring a smile to my face

When I see a songbird lift it’s feet from the ground

Or spot a radiant lily in full bloom

I am formed from the pictures that I paint

And the music I create

All in effort to keep the sadness at bay

I am cheerful to avoid being consumed with sorrow

Someone who always looks for the good in others

Because that’s what I want them to look for in me

I choose to see only what I want

So much hate in the world and no one needs it from me

Showing love in all that I do

I am my desire to rise above our selfish society

Focused on pretty faces and hot bodies

Pressing toward a people focused on fascinating minds and beautiful souls
